This month-by-month timeline maps out a Fall 2026 start so you always know what to do next. It works just as well for a Spring intake if you shift everything by about five months.

9 to 12 months before: research and choose

6 to 9 months before: prepare documents

Now gather your paperwork, the slowest part, so start early. Request official transcripts, arrange certified translations, and sit an English test (IELTS or TOEFL) if your programs need one. 4 to 6 months before: apply

Submit your applications to your shortlisted universities as soon as their cycle opens. 3 to 4 months before: accept and confirm

Choose your best offer and confirm your place, usually by paying a deposit or first instalment, which prompts the university to issue your official acceptance letter. This letter is the key to your visa, so keep it safe and make copies. 2 to 3 months before: visa

With your acceptance letter, book the earliest student visa appointment at your nearest Turkish consulate, as slots fill fast before term. 1 month before and arrival

Book your travel, arrange initial accommodation, at least a dormitory or temporary place, and prepare for arrival. Once in Türkiye, complete your university registration, apply for your residence permit, and set up a bank account and SIM card.
