Why Cyprus Aydin University

Cyprus Aydın University (CAU) is a leading private university in Kyrenia (Girne), on the north coast of Cyprus, established in 2013 as a branch of the well-known Istanbul Aydın University. In under a decade it has grown into an international education hub, hosting around 3,200 students including 730+ internationals from 23+ countries. CAU pairs a modern, tech-forward campus with a global-standard curriculum taught in English and Turkish, offering an affordable, high-quality “study in Turkey” experience by the Mediterranean, with recognised degrees and a welcoming, multicultural community.

History & milestones

CAU was officially established in 2013, extending Istanbul Aydın University’s educational vision to Northern Cyprus under the backing of the Aydın Educational Group. It welcomed its first cohort in 2014, initially offering a handful of programs in partnership with its Istanbul counterpart, then rapidly broadened its academic portfolio, introduced modern teaching technologies and forged international partnerships. Rebranding fully under the Aydın name reinforced its connection to that established reputation. Today CAU describes itself as an “international education center,” with a growing alumni network of 1,300+ graduates and new faculties and graduate programs added each year.

Kyrenia & the campus

CAU’s campus sits in the Ozanköy area, just minutes from Kyrenia’s historic harbour and city centre. Kyrenia is famed for its beautiful Mediterranean coastline, pleasant climate and rich heritage, students can enjoy nearby beaches, mountain trails (such as Saint Hilarion) and the city’s cafés and shops. The campus itself is modern and compact, with academic buildings, labs, a library and recreational areas (including a basketball court) within easy reach, plus convenient access to Kyrenia’s transport, housing and healthcare. Northern Cyprus offers real advantages: English is widely spoken, the cost of living is affordable, and the community is safe and welcoming, a unique blend of Turkish-Cypriot culture and Mediterranean lifestyle.

Vision & mission

CAU’s mission is to provide education at international standards with the student at the centre, training professionally competent, socially responsible graduates through a balance of theory and hands-on practice, ethics and innovation. Its vision is to become a globally impactful university through the power of science and technology, while upholding ethical values and respect for the environment. Its core values include quality and excellence, scientific and social integrity, innovation, equality and diversity, harmony with nature, and respect for both tradition and the future, blending a global outlook with local responsibility.

Rankings & recognition

As a young, boutique university, CAU is not yet in the major global tables (QS, THE), but it features in specialised and regional rankings. It placed 721st globally in the UI GreenMetric 2024 sustainability ranking, a strong showing for its campus, energy and environmental efforts, and appears in the AD Scientific Index (2026) for research impact (8th among Northern Cyprus universities) and Webometrics. CAU’s emphasis is on international accreditation and recognition rather than chasing metrics, ensuring its degrees are respected even as its rankings climb.

Academics & language of instruction

CAU offers a full range of programs, associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral, across 7 faculties plus vocational schools, taught in English or Turkish, with many offered in English to suit international students. The portfolio spans business, engineering, social sciences, education, tourism, fine arts, law and health, combining academic knowledge with practical, hands-on training in modern labs, studios and clinics. Smart classrooms (interactive boards, projectors, digital displays) support a student-centred approach throughout.

Faculties & specializations

  • Faculty of Engineering, computer, software and related engineering, with computer labs and engineering workshops.
  • Faculty of Health Sciences, health and clinical programs including Dentistry (with on-campus dental clinics), Nursing and Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation, taught with practice labs.
  • Faculty of Economics & Administrative Sciences, Business Administration, economics, international relations and management, a flagship cluster.
  • Faculty of Law, legal studies with an international and comparative dimension.
  • Faculty of Educational Sciences, teacher-training and guidance programs.
  • Faculty of Tourism, tourism and hospitality management, strengthened by Kyrenia’s tourism economy and CAU’s ATLAS membership.
  • Faculty of Fine Arts & Design, creative and design programs.
  • Vocational Schools, 2-year diplomas in fields such as Civil Aviation Cabin Services, Emergency & First Aid, Culinary Arts, Justice, Physiotherapy and Tour Guiding.

Tuition & scholarships

CAU is one of the most affordable international options on the island; figures below are approximate annual guidance, exact current fees appear in the tuition table above:

  • Associate (2-year) programs: ~$1,650-1,800 / year
  • Bachelor’s programs: ~$1,650-4,500 / year (most fields very low; professional programs at the higher end)
  • Master’s: ~$3,200 / year
  • PhD: ~$6,000 / year

Combined with Northern Cyprus’s low cost of living, this makes an English- or Turkish-medium degree exceptionally accessible. CAU offers merit and country-based scholarships, sibling discounts, and accepts government Türkiye Scholarships.

Graduate studies

CAU’s graduate offerings have grown quickly, with around 18 master’s and a set of doctoral programs across health sciences, engineering, business, education and social sciences (thesis and non-thesis tracks). Graduate students benefit from small classes, close faculty mentorship, an up-to-date library with online databases, and the university’s research centres, and the Aydın network opens collaboration and exchange opportunities. Many programs are available in English, attracting international postgraduates seeking an affordable, recognised qualification.

Campus & facilities

Though compact, CAU is well-equipped: smart classrooms, 10+ laboratories, studios and clinics (engineering labs, nursing and physiotherapy labs, on-campus dental clinics with simulation tools), and a modern library and information center with print, e-book and database collections plus quiet and group study spaces. On-campus dormitories (furnished, with Wi-Fi, laundry, study lounges and 24/7 security) sit near the academic buildings, with plenty of city housing nearby. Add cafeterias and coffee shops, an indoor gym and basketball court, campus-wide Wi-Fi, and research centres (Cyprus Studies, Women’s Studies, Child Research) and a Continuing Education center, and students get a complete, close-knit campus experience.

Student services & campus life

CAU supports its international students through a dedicated International Office (visas, residence permits, adaptation), a Student Affairs office, a Student Dean’s office and a Career Development Center offering counselling, CV workshops, job fairs and internship connections, aligned with the university’s employability goals. Campus life is lively for a smaller university, with 16+ student clubs spanning cultural, sports, arts and professional interests, plus the recreational draw of Kyrenia’s beaches and trails. The diverse, multicultural community makes it easy for newcomers to settle in.

Accreditations & recognition

CAU is accredited by Turkey’s YÖK and North Cyprus’s YÖDAK, so its degrees meet Turkish-system standards and are recognised in Turkey and beyond. It is listed in the World Higher Education Database (WHED) maintained by the IAU and UNESCO, is a member of the UK’s ENIC (formerly NARIC) recognition network, easing equivalency in the UK and Commonwealth, and its degrees are officially recognised by ministries in countries including Palestine and Nigeria. It belongs to international associations such as EURAS (Eurasian Universities Union) and ATLAS (tourism education), and maintains 50+ collaboration agreements worldwide through the Aydın network.

Special highlights & why choose

CAU’s biggest advantage is the combination of the Istanbul Aydın brand and network with the affordability and lifestyle of Mediterranean Kyrenia. You study in English or Turkish, in smart classrooms and modern labs, at some of the lowest tuition on the island, on a safe, sunny, welcoming campus by the sea. With strengths in Dentistry, Engineering and Business Administration, broad recognition (YÖK, YÖDAK, WHED, UK ENIC), a sustainability-minded green campus and 50+ global partnerships, Cyprus Aydın University is an excellent-value choice for international students who want a recognised degree and a memorable island experience.

What students say

What I like most is the balance: Health Sciences classes are taken seriously, but festivals, sports and clubs keep university life fun.
NourHealth Sciences student
Cyprus is a great city to be a student in, and the university’s location makes it easy to enjoy the city and still keep up with classes.
AnanyaTourism student
The library and study spaces stay open late, which saved me during exam weeks. Everything on campus feels modern and well kept.
