Why Final International University
Final International University (FIU) is a young, dynamic private university in Kyrenia (Girne), Northern Cyprus, offering an education within Turkey’s respected higher-education system alongside a Mediterranean lifestyle. Founded in 2015, it has quickly earned a reputation for its student-centered approach, English-medium programs and very affordable tuition, backed by the Final Education Group’s decades of expertise and the DMG-Akgünler tourism conglomerate. Across nine faculties and 60+ programs, with a genuinely international student body of 4,000-5,000 and generous scholarships of 50% to 100%, FIU makes recognised, globally oriented higher education accessible, true to its motto, “Make your decision Final.”
History & milestones
FIU was established in 2015 and welcomed its first class of students in the 2016-17 academic year. It was born from a collaboration between two powerhouse organisations: the Final Education Group, which brought nearly 40 years of experience in Turkey’s education sector (over 400 schools and more than 3 million students educated), and the DMG-Akgünler Group, a leading Northern Cyprus tourism and hospitality company, notably the owner of the five-star Acapulco Hotel in Kyrenia. This unusual partnership combined education and tourism expertise, laying a strong, industry-connected foundation. Starting with a handful of programs, FIU expanded rapidly to nine faculties, several vocational schools and institutes, and graduate programs within a few years, becoming one of the fastest-growing private universities in Northern Cyprus and a bridge between Turkish and international higher education.
Kyrenia, the coastal advantage
FIU’s main campus sits just outside Kyrenia’s town centre in the Çatalköy area, with the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Beşparmak (Kyrenia) Mountains to the south. Kyrenia is one of the Eastern Mediterranean’s most picturesque and historic cities, famous for its charming harbour, medieval castle and lively waterfront, and is safe, welcoming and warm for most of the year, ideal for outdoor life alongside study. A secondary campus in the capital Nicosia (Lefkoşa), about a 30-minute drive away, brings students closer to ministries, businesses, libraries and internships, while free university shuttles connect the Kyrenia campus to key points in the city. It is an appealing blend of tranquil island life and urban connectivity.
Vision & mission
FIU’s vision is to be a leading institution producing graduates who are open to continuous learning, innovative in their thinking and capable of leadership in their fields, able to adapt to and drive progress in a rapidly changing world. Its student-focused mission combines theoretical knowledge with real-world experience through five commitments: innovative, technology-rich teaching; professional skill development via hands-on training, internships and real projects; continuous improvement with regularly updated curricula; quality faculty and mentorship; and cultural inclusivity and a global outlook that prepares graduates to thrive anywhere. The university aims to build not just knowledge, but character, creativity and a lifelong love of learning.
Rankings & recognition
Though relatively new, FIU has begun to appear in reputable rankings. Webometrics (2023) places it around #10,790 globally and 7th in Northern Cyprus, while uniRank (2025) lists it at #8,637 worldwide and 16th across the whole island of Cyprus, a strong showing for so young an institution. Most notably, FIU was ranked among the world’s top 400 for “Quality Education” in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which measure universities against the UN Sustainable Development Goals, a direct reflection of its teaching excellence and educational impact. As FIU matures, its visibility on the global academic stage is expected to keep rising.
Academics & language of instruction
FIU offers 60+ programs across associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels through nine faculties, three vocational schools and a graduate institute. Fields span engineering, business and economics, law, the arts and sciences, health sciences, education, tourism and culinary arts, plus professional Dentistry and Pharmacy. English is the primary language of instruction for the majority of programs, preparing graduates for international careers, with English preparatory classes for those who need them and a few Turkish-taught programs (mainly teacher-training and some vocational and health fields) for local needs. The university runs two intakes a year (Fall and Spring) plus a summer session, and emphasises practical, project-based, industry-connected learning at every level.

Graduate studies
FIU’s Institute of Graduate Studies and Research offers a range of master’s and a focused set of doctoral programs, taught in English. Master’s options (typically 1.5-2 years, with thesis or non-thesis tracks) include an MBA, M.Sc. in Software Engineering and Electrical & Electronic Engineering, M.A. in International Relations & Political Science, M.A. in Educational Management, Tourism Management, M.Arch., and M.A. in English Language Teaching. PhD programs concentrate on areas of strength: Business Administration, Political Science & International Relations, and, distinctively, several Dental Sciences doctorates (Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery), combining advanced clinical training with research. Graduate students benefit from extensive online databases, accessible faculty mentors, research-skills and academic-writing workshops, and assistantship opportunities, and many can continue from undergraduate through to a doctorate within one supportive institution.
Campus & facilities
As a new university, FIU’s purpose-built Kyrenia campus is genuinely state-of-the-art. Smart classrooms with multimedia sit alongside specialised laboratories, engineering computing and electronics labs, robotics kits, chemistry and biology labs, nutrition and simulation labs, and dedicated dental clinical facilities where students practise under supervision. A multi-floor library offers quiet and group study areas, computer terminals and online journals, with campus-wide high-speed Wi-Fi. Student life is well supported: on-campus dormitories and affiliated housing (furnished, with utilities, internet and air-conditioning), several cafeterias and coffee shops, sports fields and a gym (with swimming and even diving given the coastal setting), and student club rooms and a student union, all in a secure environment with 24/7 security and controlled entry. The smaller Nicosia branch adds modern classrooms and seminar space in the capital.
Student services & campus life
FIU surrounds students with comprehensive support. The International Office assists from application through arrival, acceptance letters, visa and residence-permit guidance, airport pickups and orientation, while academic advisors guide each student’s progress. Counseling and guidance services support well-being and adjustment, and career services help with CVs, interviews and internship placements, leveraging the university’s industry and tourism connections. Health services and referrals to Kyrenia’s private hospitals keep students well, and the campus offers a vibrant social scene: numerous student clubs, sports teams and cultural events, from courtyard festivals to tournaments and guest seminars. Free campus-city shuttles make exploring Kyrenia and reaching Nicosia easy, and the friendly, multicultural, student-oriented culture helps newcomers from dozens of countries quickly feel at home.
Accreditations & recognition
FIU is fully accredited by Turkey’s Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and North Cyprus’s YÖDAK, so its degrees are valid and equivalent to those of accredited Turkish universities. Its teacher-training programs carry EPDAD accreditation; its hospitality and tourism programs are tied to Eurhodip; and it holds memberships in around 11 international organisations, including the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European University Association (EUA), plus connections to global business-education networks. FIU degrees are listed by the UK ENIC/NARIC network for European equivalency and are recognised by ministries of education across the MENA region, so graduates can pursue work or further study at home and abroad with confidence.
