Why Mudanya University

Mudanya University is one of Turkey’s newest private universities, offering a modern, innovative education in the historic city of Bursa. Founded in 2022 by the Bursa Education and Culture Foundation, it has quickly built a reputation for forward-thinking programs and strong industry connections. Its hallmark is a hands-on learning model that builds a full term of real work experience into every degree, alongside a state-of-the-art campus on the green Marmara coast. With a small, close-knit community (a very favourable student-to-faculty ratio), affordable tuition and bilingual (English and Turkish) programs, Mudanya is a rising choice for international students seeking quality education at a reasonable cost.

History & milestones

Mudanya University was established on 11 March 2022 in the Mudanya district of Bursa by the Bursa Education and Culture Foundation, opening admissions that same year and welcoming a first cohort of about 349 students (including ~47 internationals). It quickly established three faculties (Engineering, Architecture & Design; Arts & Social Sciences; Health Sciences), a Vocational School and a Graduate Institute. A defining feature from day one is its signature 3+1 and 7+1 education models, which build a full term of practical industry experience into every program. Within its first two years it joined Erasmus+, signed international partnerships (including with Southern University, USA and the International University of Kyrgyzstan), set up its MUDUTOMER Turkish-language and MUDÜSEM continuing-education centres, and reported a ~96% placement rate, a sign of strong demand.

Bursa, the green coast advantage

Mudanya’s main Çağrışan Campus sits in the Mudanya district on the southern shore of the Sea of Marmara, a tranquil, seaside setting with cleaner air and a relaxed atmosphere, yet only a short distance from Bursa’s city centre. Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, is known as “Green Bursa” for its parks and forests, with the towering Uludağ Mountain nearby for year-round outdoor activities (including skiing). It offers a low cost of living, efficient transport (buses, metro and ferries to Istanbul) and a dynamic economy rich in automotive (TOFAŞ, Oyak Renault) and textile industries, ideal for the university’s internship model, and is just ~2 hours from Istanbul: the best of both worlds.

Vision & mission

Mudanya’s vision is to be a pioneering, exemplary university known for high standards and innovation, nurturing a generation that looks to the future with hope, walks confidently in their careers, contributes positively to society and embraces lifelong learning, through interdisciplinary planning that produces well-rounded graduates. Its mission is to educate competent, socially responsible individuals and conduct impactful research, training creative problem-solvers who can develop sustainable solutions to local, national and global challenges, grounded in universal human values, and to transfer knowledge to the community through industry partnerships. Its values include innovation, teaching excellence, social responsibility, internationalisation and an inclusive, student-centred approach.

Rankings & recognition

As a university founded only in 2022, Mudanya has not yet entered the major global rankings (QS, THE World), which typically require years of research history, its absence reflects youth, not quality. It is nonetheless building a record: the AD Scientific Index 2025 already lists 19 of its scientists (placing it around ~200th in Turkey for research performance), and it participates in the THE Impact Rankings (1001+ tier). Locally it is one of only a few foundation universities in Bursa and a fast-rising regional name, with a ~96% placement rate in its early admissions signalling strong student demand. As its first cohorts graduate and research output grows, its standing is expected to climb quickly.

Academics & language of instruction

Mudanya offers 30+ programs across 3 faculties, a Vocational School and a Graduate Institute, about 14 bachelor’s, 10 master’s and 9 associate programs (PhD programs planned for the future). Several bachelor’s programs (Computer, Industrial and Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Psychology) are taught in English, with others in Turkish and a MUDUTOMER Turkish-language centre for those who need it. The defining feature is the 3+1 / 7+1 work-study model: vocational students spend a final semester (3+1) and bachelor’s students a final semester (7+1) in full-time industry placement, plus project-based learning with Bursa’s manufacturers. The curriculum follows the Bologna/ECTS framework with electives and an interdisciplinary ethos, so graduates leave with both knowledge and substantial work experience.

Faculties & specializations

  • Faculty of Engineering, Architecture & Design, Computer Engineering (English), Industrial Engineering (English), Electrical-Electronics Engineering (English) and Industrial Design, with tech labs, design studios and strong ties to Bursa’s automotive industry.
  • Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Business Administration, Economics & Finance, Psychology (English and Turkish), English Language & Literature and International Trade & Logistics, blending bilingual education with a global perspective.
  • Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing, Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation and Nutrition & Dietetics, with simulation/practice labs and clinical internships at Bursa hospitals (no MD/dentistry, the health focus is nursing and allied fields).
  • Vocational School, 9 two-year programs: Anesthesia, Medical Imaging, First Aid & Emergency, Oral & Dental Health, Physiotherapy, Computer Programming, Automotive Technology, Foreign Trade and Graphic Design, with practitioner instructors and the 3+1 placement.
  • Graduate Institute, 10 master’s programs mirroring the undergraduate fields (Computer/Industrial Engineering, MBA/Business, Economics & Finance, Psychology, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and more), mostly thesis-based.

Tuition & scholarships

Mudanya’s tuition is among the most affordable for a Turkish private university; fees are quoted in US dollars, and the figures below are approximate annual guidance, exact current fees appear in the tuition table above:

  • Associate (2-year) programs: about $2,800 / year
  • Bachelor’s (Turkish-medium): about $4,800 / year
  • Bachelor’s (English-medium): about $5,200 / year
  • Master’s programs: about $6,000 / year (thesis or non-thesis)

The university offers academic merit scholarships (commonly 25-50%, occasionally up to 100%), international-student awards, sibling and cash-payment discounts, and accepts government Türkiye Scholarships; graduate assistantships are emerging as the university grows. Combined with Bursa’s low cost of living, this makes Mudanya an exceptionally cost-effective place to study in Turkey.

Graduate studies

Mudanya’s Graduate Institute offers about 10 master’s programs (M.Sc./MA, mostly thesis-based) aligned with its undergraduate strengths: Computer Engineering (AI, data science, cybersecurity), Industrial Engineering (supply-chain and systems optimisation), an MBA/Business track, Economics & Finance, Psychology (applied/clinical), Nursing, Physiotherapy and Nutrition & Dietetics. With tiny class sizes, students receive close one-on-one mentorship from an academic advisor and thesis supervisor, and Bursa’s heavy industry serves as a living lab, thesis projects might optimise a local production line or develop AI for manufacturing. Graduate seminars, emerging research groups and the university’s industry network support the work. PhD programs are not yet offered but are planned as faculty and research infrastructure mature, and Mudanya’s research-oriented master’s prepare graduates well to pursue doctorates elsewhere meanwhile.

Campus & facilities

Mudanya’s purpose-built Çağrışan Campus (≈27,500 m² indoor, 22,000 m² outdoor, operational since 2022) is modern and student-friendly. It features smart classrooms, 48 multifunctional laboratories (engineering, robotics, computing, psychology, health), design studios and ~5 workshops, and one of the largest university libraries in Turkey (multi-storey, extensive Turkish/English collections and databases). Two 520-seat conference halls and three ~300-seat lecture theatres host events, alongside a student centre and cafeteria (with halal options). On-campus housing includes a modern 114-bed women’s dormitory (with meals, study and recreation rooms), with housing help for male students nearby. Add sports facilities, a campus health centre, a barrier-free (Engelsiz Yaşam) accessibility unit, 24/7 security and campus-wide Wi-Fi, a complete, compact environment that fosters a tight-knit community.

Student services & campus life

Mudanya wraps its small, growing community in personalised support. On-campus and nearby housing assistance (including the 114-bed women’s dorm) helps students settle, and a campus health centre plus counseling look after well-being, with a barrier-free unit ensuring accessibility. A Career Office drives the signature 3+1/7+1 industry placements and internship/job links with Bursa’s companies, a major employability advantage, while an International Office and the MUDUTOMER Turkish-language centre help international students (10-15% of the body, from the Middle East, Asia and Africa) with admissions, visas, residence permits, orientation and language. With a dozen-plus student clubs, events, sports and the relaxed charm of a seaside town near Uludağ, student life is friendly, supportive and genuinely family-like.

Accreditations & recognition

Mudanya is fully accredited by Turkey’s YÖK, so its degrees are officially recognised at home and, through equivalence, abroad. As Turkey is part of the Bologna Process, it awards ECTS credits and an English diploma supplement for easy recognition across Europe and beyond. It holds an Erasmus+ charter for student and staff exchange, and has signed international partnerships, notably with Southern University and A&M College (Louisiana, USA) and the International University of Kyrgyzstan, for joint activities and mobility, with more MOUs in progress. Its engineering programs are designed toward future MÜDEK accreditation, and its health programs follow Turkish Ministry of Health and YÖK standards. For a two-year-old university, this is a solid, fast-growing credential base.

Special highlights & why choose

Mudanya’s signature is its work-integrated “3+1 / 7+1” model, a full term of real industry experience built into every degree, backed by Bursa’s automotive, textile and manufacturing base, which already shows in a ~96% placement rate and strong graduate employability. As a brand-new (2022), purpose-built university it offers modern facilities (48 labs, one of Turkey’s largest libraries, a new women’s dorm) and a small, personalised, family-like community with close faculty mentorship. Add English-medium engineering and psychology, international partnerships reaching the USA and Central Asia, Erasmus+ mobility, exceptionally affordable tuition and Bursa’s low cost of living on the green Marmara coast, just ~2 hours from Istanbul, and Mudanya University is a fresh, practical, industry-connected and value-driven choice for international students who want hands-on learning and a smooth path into the workforce.
