Why Dogus University

Doğuş University is a reputable non-profit foundation university on Istanbul’s Asian side, founded in 1997. With nearly 11,000 students, including many internationals from across Asia, Africa and the Middle East, it offers a diverse, inclusive campus and bilingual (English and Turkish) instruction. Doğuş is known for affordable tuition, accredited programs and a strong, student-centred approach, and its two campuses (one overlooking the Bosphorus) plus a commitment to innovation make it an attractive, well-rounded choice for studying in Istanbul. Within just two decades it became one of Istanbul’s top foundation universities (among those without a medical faculty) and entered the global top ~2,000.

History & milestones

Doğuş University was founded on 9 July 1997 by the Doğuş Education Foundation (established 1995), building on the Doğuş brand’s 50+ years in education (running schools since the 1970s). It expanded quickly, joining the Erasmus+ exchange program in 2003, opening two main Istanbul campuses, and adding faculties such as Law and Health Sciences. Over 25+ years it has built modern laboratories, formed global partnerships and grown an alumni network of 16,000+ graduates, marrying its educational heritage with a forward-looking, research-minded approach.

Istanbul, two Asian-side campuses

Doğuş operates two campuses on Istanbul’s Anatolian (Asian) side:

  • Dudullu Campus (Ümraniye), the larger, tech-focused hub, home to Engineering, Arts & Design, Arts & Sciences, the School of Health Sciences and the Vocational School. It has 124 classrooms, 38 laboratories (engineering, computing, health, physics/chemistry and a culinary-arts kitchen), nine design/creative workshops, two sports halls, a large library, dormitories and even a student radio station (Doğuş Radio), close to Istanbul’s tech-industry zones.
  • Çengelköy Campus (Üsküdar), a scenic campus overlooking the Bosphorus, home to the Faculty of Economics & Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Law and the graduate institutes, with 101 classrooms, amphitheatres, a conference hall, art studios, a library and a dormitory in a charming, historic neighbourhood.

A shuttle and Istanbul’s public transport link the two, and the city’s networking, internships and cultural life are on the doorstep.

Vision & mission

Doğuş’s vision is to be a globally recognised centre of excellence in education, research and community service, empowering students to become pioneers and innovators through critical thinking, creativity and social responsibility. Its mission emphasises cutting-edge research that contributes to scientific, technological, artistic and cultural progress, and student-centred, qualified education delivered by distinguished faculty with strong industry connections, producing graduates who are academically accomplished, career-ready and socially conscious. Its values include excellence, continuous improvement, diversity and collaboration.

Rankings & recognition

Doğuş is among the top ~100 universities in Turkey and well-placed internationally. It ranks #58 in Western Asia (QS Regional 2024), #1,587 worldwide / #36 in Turkey (CWUR 2023), and #4,145 / #83 in Turkey (EduRank 2025), and appears in the THE Impact Rankings 2025 (1501+ band). It scores in the global top 50% across multiple research disciplines, with particular research strength in physics and engineering, confirming consistent academic quality for a mid-sized foundation university.

Academics & language of instruction

Doğuş offers programs at every level, about 31 bachelor’s, 18 associate, 17 master’s and 7 doctoral, taught in English and Turkish. Many undergraduate programs (Business Administration, International Relations, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, English Language & Literature and more) have English tracks, with several departments offering both languages. A one-year English Preparatory program is available where needed, and affordable Turkish courses (TÖMER) help international students settle in. The curriculum is modern and industry-relevant, with internships and practical projects, especially in engineering, architecture and business.

Faculties & specializations

  • Faculty of Engineering, Computer, Electrical-Electronics (Electronics & Communications), Mechanical, Industrial and Control Engineering (English/Turkish), MÜDEK-accredited, with strong research in theoretical physics, electronics and materials.
  • Faculty of Economics & Administrative Sciences, Business Administration (English/Turkish), International Trade & Business, Economics & Finance and International Relations, with case studies, simulations and exchange/dual-degree options.
  • Faculty of Arts & Sciences, Psychology, English Language & Literature, Mathematics and Communication Sciences (plus physics/chemistry), with an interdisciplinary, elective-rich approach.
  • Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture, Architecture, Interior Architecture, Industrial Product Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design and Painting, taught in studios, ateliers and a CAD/CAM lab.
  • Faculty of Law, a Turkish-medium LLB recognised by the Turkish Bar Association, with moot court, legal-English classes and internships.
  • School of Health Sciences (newer), programs such as Nutrition & Dietetics, Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation and Nursing.
  • Vocational School, ~18 two-year associate programs (Computer Programming, Justice, Banking & Insurance, Mechatronics, Oral & Dental Health, Physiotherapy and Anaesthesia technician and more).

Tuition & scholarships

Doğuş is notably affordable for a private university; figures below are approximate annual guidance, exact current fees appear in the tuition table above:

  • Bachelor’s: ~$2,750-3,000 / year (English programs near $3,000; Turkish programs ~$2,500-2,750)
  • Associate (2-year) programs: lower still (~$1,900/year)
  • Master’s: ~$2,350-3,600 / year (non-thesis programs often lower, ~1-1.5 years)
  • PhD: ~$5,000 / year, with assistantships/waivers for strong candidates

Generous aid is available: merit scholarships of 25-100% for new students with strong records, a cash/full-payment discount (~10%), a sibling discount (~5%), an automatic 50% for graduates of Doğuş schools, and acceptance of government Türkiye Scholarships, and continuing students with a GPA of 3.5+ can earn partial scholarships.

Graduate studies

Run by the Institutes of Social Sciences and Science & Technology, Doğuş’s graduate school offers 17 master’s (thesis and non-thesis) and 7 PhD programs. Master’s include the MBA (English/Turkish), plus Psychology, Communication Sciences, English Language & Literature, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer & Information Sciences, Engineering & Technology Management, Financial Economics and a distinctive MA in European Union Studies. Doctoral programs include Logistics & Supply Chain Management and Financial Economics alongside engineering fields. Many non-thesis master’s suit working professionals with evening/weekend classes, while research students contribute to Doğuş’s output in physics, engineering and economics.

Campus & facilities

Both campuses are well-equipped. Dudullu offers 124 classrooms, 38 labs (engineering, computing, health, science and a fully equipped culinary kitchen), nine creative workshops (architecture/design studios, photography and sewing), two sports halls, a large library with five reading rooms, dining halls, a health centre, Doğuş Radio, prayer rooms and on-campus dormitories. Çengelköy adds 101 classrooms, amphitheatres, a conference hall, ~20 labs, art ateliers (drawing, printing, graphics), a library and its own dormitory in a scenic Bosphorus setting. Both have campus-wide Wi-Fi, 24/7 security and inter-campus shuttles, giving students a complete, comfortable environment.

Student services & campus life

Campus life is vibrant, with 58 student clubs and societies spanning sports, music, entrepreneurship and volunteering, plus annual festivals, cultural days and events. An International Student Office supports foreign students with admissions, visas, residence permits and orientation; a health centre and counselling look after wellbeing; and a careers service taps Istanbul’s industry and Doğuş’s partnerships for internships. The mid-sized scale means moderate class sizes, close faculty mentorship and a friendly, multicultural community across the two campuses.

Accreditations & recognition

Doğuş is fully accredited by Turkey’s YÖK, follows the Bologna Process / ECTS, and its engineering programs carry MÜDEK accreditation (ENAEE-recognised), boosting international recognition. It is an active Erasmus+ participant (30+ European partners), and a member of the European University Association (EUA), the International Association of Universities (IAU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and others. It runs exchange partnerships including SUNY (State University of New York) and AIESEC internships, and its degrees are recognised by education authorities in several Middle Eastern and African countries, so a Doğuş diploma travels well.

Special highlights & why choose

Doğuş’s appeal is a bilingual, accredited education at genuinely affordable prices, on attractive Bosphorus-side campuses in safe, convenient Asian Istanbul. Its MÜDEK-accredited engineering, research strength in physics and engineering, distinctive programs like EU Studies and Logistics & Supply Chain PhD, and strong creative and business faculties give it real breadth, while merit scholarships of up to 100%, Erasmus+ and a SUNY exchange add global opportunity and value. For international students who want a recognised, well-rounded degree in Istanbul with personal attention and a reasonable budget, Doğuş University is a smart, reliable choice.
