FBU was officially founded on 24 November 2016, gaining legal status through a law in the Turkish Official Gazette and backed by the storied Fenerbahçe club’s foundation. Growth was rapid: an early, significant partnership with the Medicana Health Group funded the development of health-education programs; the university joined Erasmus+ by 2021; and it expanded from an initial dozen departments to 7 faculties and over 50 programs, launching several research centers along the way. Rankings & recognition

As a young university, FBU is still building its standing but has already entered several rankings. EduRank 2025 places it around 167th in Turkey and ~9,793rd globally, while Webometrics 2025 lists it about 177th nationally and ~10,699th worldwide for web and research presence. Notably, FBU has debuted in the THE Impact Rankings, which assess contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, appearing in the 1501+ band overall with category placements such as 801-1000 in “Reduced Inequalities” and “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” reflecting its growing social-impact focus. It does not yet feature in QS or THE world tables (expected for so recent an institution), but its trajectory is clearly upward as investments in faculty, research and internationalisation take hold, and its reputation in sports sciences and health is already strong across the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Academics & language of instruction

FBU offers around 34 bachelor’s programs across its 7 faculties, 14 associate programs in its Vocational School of Health Services, plus roughly 12 master’s and 2 doctoral programs through its Graduate Education Institute. Courses are taught in English and Turkish, with many programs, especially in engineering, business and several health fields, delivered fully in English, which is a major draw for international students; the Pharmacy program offers both English and Turkish tracks. Tuition & scholarships

FBU’s tuition is competitive for Istanbul; fees are quoted in US dollars, and the figures below are approximate annual guidance, exact current fees appear in the tuition table above:

• Associate (2-year) programs: roughly $2,000 / year
• Bachelor’s programs: about $3,000-4,500 / year for most fields (Turkish-medium options nearer $3,150), rising to ~$8,000 / year for Pharmacy given its specialised, lab-intensive nature
• Master’s: ~$2,250-3,300 / year
• PhD: ~$7,500 / year

A standard 10% discount applies when the year’s fee is paid upfront in cash, plus a 5% sibling discount for students with a sibling enrolled. FBU also offers merit scholarships for high-performing students, special promotions for certain nationalities or programs, and accepts government Türkiye Scholarships. An English or Turkish preparatory year, if required, carries an additional fee. Graduate studies

FBU’s Graduate Education Institute oversees a growing slate of master’s and doctoral programs, with both thesis (research) and non-thesis (professional) tracks.
