Why Istanbul Kent University

Istanbul Kent University is a young, dynamic private university in the heart of Istanbul, established in 2016 by the Education Without Barriers Foundation (ENEV), giving it a founding commitment to inclusive, accessible education. Across four faculties, two vocational schools and a graduate institute, around 6,000 students (including 850+ internationals from 18+ countries) study a wide range of programs in English and Turkish, split between a historic city-centre campus and a brand-new high-tech one. With strengths in dentistry, health sciences, business and design, a barrier-free ethos and affordable tuition, it offers international students a welcoming environment aimed at producing a skilled, globally competitive generation of graduates.

History & milestones

Istanbul Kent University was founded in 2016 as one of the first projects of ENEV, the Foundation for Barrier-Free Education, and admitted its first cohort in 2017-18, beginning with faculties of Humanities & Social Sciences, Art & Design and Health Sciences plus vocational schools. It established a Faculty of Dentistry in 2018, which became a member of the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) in 2021, earning early international recognition, and in 2022 opened its modern Kağıthane Campus, a 14-floor building with 54 classrooms, 39 laboratories, sports areas, cafés, social spaces, a library and workshops. In a short time it has grown into a comprehensive institution serving thousands of students, while staying true to its founding mission of accessible, quality education.

Istanbul, two campuses

Istanbul Kent operates two campuses, each with its own character:

  • Taksim Campus (Beyoğlu/Cihangir), in the cultural heart of Istanbul, housed in the beautifully renovated 1846 former German Hospital, whose 19th-century architecture is preserved around fully modern interiors. It is home to the Faculty of Dentistry (with training clinics) and the graduate institute, steps from İstiklal Street, Taksim Square and Galata Tower, galleries, theatres and cafés all at the doorstep.
  • Kağıthane Campus, a modern, 14-floor high-tech complex (opened 2022) hosting most undergraduate faculties (Economics & Administrative Sciences, Art & Design, Health Sciences) and the vocational schools, with cutting-edge labs, design studios, computer labs, workshops, on-site cafés and sports areas, and a multi-floor library, well-connected by metro and bus.

Together they immerse students in Istanbul’s blend of tradition and modernity, with internships, culture and city life all close at hand.

Vision & mission

Istanbul Kent’s vision is to be a leading institution in Turkey and a respected player in global education, guiding students toward continuous learning and success while instilling values of innovation, social responsibility, cultural diversity, collaboration and perseverance, graduating confident, globally competitive individuals loyal to their ethical and cultural principles. Its mission is to deliver high-quality, modern education that builds problem-solving abilities and practical experience, encourages scientific research, and, true to its barrier-free founding, ensures inclusive education so students of all backgrounds and abilities can thrive in a supportive environment, ultimately empowering graduates to contribute positively to society.

Rankings & recognition

As a young institution, Istanbul Kent is steadily climbing the rankings, currently around the top 200 in Turkey and the top 10,000-12,000 globally: EduRank 2025 places it about 170th nationally (~9,984th worldwide), Webometrics 2023 around 178th (~10,755th), and uniRank 2023 roughly 171st (~12,647th). These positions reflect its newness, but its emphasis on modern education, research and international engagement is expected to lift its standing over time, and its ADEE-member dentistry program and growing international recognition already lend real credibility for so young a university.

Academics & language of instruction

A School of Foreign Languages provides an English Preparatory Year and TÖMER Turkish courses for those who need them. With small class sizes, a blend of theory and practice, and a curriculum aligned to the Bologna/ECTS framework, Istanbul Kent emphasises hands-on, industry-relevant learning and personalised mentorship.

It is aligned with the Bologna Process and uses ECTS for credit transfer and degree recognition across Europe, and it participates in Erasmus+ exchange with partner universities. Its Faculty of Dentistry’s membership in the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) is strong validation of European-standard dental education, valuable for graduates seeking licensing abroad, and the university is engaged with Turkey’s higher-education quality bodies (linked to TÜBİTAK). Its degrees are recognised across the EU and in numerous Middle Eastern and Asian countries (Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq and others), giving international graduates portable qualifications.

Special highlights & why choose

Istanbul Kent’s appeal is its focused excellence in chosen niches, inclusive ethos and central-Istanbul setting. Its ADEE-member Dentistry faculty, English or Turkish, with on-campus clinics and specialist PhD tracks, is the standout, complemented by allied health sciences and Pharmacy.
