The university began in 2009 as Plato College of Higher Education under the Plato Education Foundation, co-founded by the noted Turkish filmmaker Sinan Çetin, focused on practical and creative fields. It gained university status in 2016 as Istanbul Ayvansaray University, allowing it to offer bachelor’s and graduate programs, and in 2022 was renamed Istanbul Topkapi University to align with Istanbul’s historic Topkapi heritage.
