The university was founded in 2009 by the Vatan Health and Education Foundation (which dates back to 1974), to create a modern institution focused on health and science. It opened with 7 faculties, 2 vocational schools and ~860 students, and grew to around 19,000 students by 2025, adding Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Law, Engineering, Fine Arts, Communication, Health and Sport Sciences and more.
