Psychology is one of the most popular degrees among international students, and Türkiye offers strong, affordable, English-taught programs in the field. The science of mind and behaviour opens doors into clinical work, research, business, education and more, but it also comes with an important caveat about professional licensing that every prospective psychology student should understand. This guide covers what you will study, the best universities, costs, careers, and the honest truth about practising as a psychologist.
Why study psychology in Türkiye
Türkiye has a growing, well-regarded psychology academic community, with modern programs that combine scientific rigour with practical training, taught in English at many private universities. The cost is a fraction of Western schools, scholarships are common, and the international student communities are large and welcoming. For students fascinated by human behaviour who want a quality, affordable degree with broad career options, Türkiye is an excellent choice. Browse psychology programs in the programs explorer.
What you will study
Psychology is a broad science, and the degree gives you a comprehensive foundation. You will study core areas such as cognitive, developmental, social and biological psychology, research methods and statistics, abnormal and clinical psychology, and personality, with electives that let you explore specialisms. Strong emphasis is placed on research skills and evidence, since psychology is a science, and many programs include lab work, projects and supervised practical experience. Expect a degree that develops both your understanding of people and your ability to analyse and reason with data.

The important note on clinical licensing
Here is the honesty every psychology student needs. A bachelor’s degree in psychology is a science degree, not in itself a licence to practise as a clinical psychologist or therapist. Becoming a practising clinical psychologist almost always requires further postgraduate study and supervised training, and crucially, licensing in the specific country where you intend to practise, on that country’s terms, wherever you studied. Clinical work in Türkiye also leans heavily on Turkish for working with patients. None of this is unique to Türkiye; it is true of psychology degrees worldwide. The key is to plan your path with the end in mind, which is exactly what we help you do.
Careers beyond clinical practice
Importantly, psychology opens many doors that do not require clinical licensing. Graduates work in human resources and organisational psychology, marketing and consumer research, education and special needs, user experience and research, social services, and on to postgraduate study in many directions. The analytical, research and people skills a psychology degree builds are valued across business and the public sector. So even if clinical practice is not your path, or you are still deciding, a psychology degree is versatile and employable, as our guide on the best degrees for jobs reflects.
Cost and scholarships
Psychology is affordable in Türkiye, especially after scholarships, which most international students receive at private universities, commonly 25 to 100 percent. With reasonable living costs, the all-in price is well below Western equivalents while offering English instruction. Our guides on lowering your tuition and the cost of living help you plan.
Frequently asked questions
Can I study psychology in English? Yes, widely. Many universities offer fully English-taught psychology programs for international students.
Can I become a therapist with a bachelor’s degree? Not on its own. Clinical practice requires further postgraduate study, supervised training and licensing in the country where you will work.
What jobs can I get without clinical licensing? HR, marketing research, UX, education, social services and more, plus postgraduate study. The degree is broadly employable.
Does clinical work need Turkish? Practising with patients in Türkiye leans heavily on Turkish, so plan for language if clinical practice here is your goal.
